Crisis Shelter for the Homeless at Union Gospel Mission Dallas

As of Tuesday, March 17, 2020, Union Gospel Mission Dallas (UGM Dallas) is “sheltering in place" by housing nearly 700 men, women and children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the crisis is ended - a 65 percent increase in the number of people typically served daily. As a result, costs have increased significantly. This increase in services requires the hiring of new employees, primarily in the areas of food service, security and general monitoring of UGM Dallas’ two primary facilities. UGM Dallas also needs extra provisions such as food, paper goods and cleaning supplies. Extra cost estimates are broken down as follows:

Additional security staff: $5,000.00
Hiring building monitors: $5,000.00
Additional food service staff: $5,000.00
Additional food for Calvert Place: $4,000.00
Additional food for Center of Hope: $2,000.00
Paper goods and cleaning materials: $3,000.00
Total weekly cost during the COVID-19 crisis: $24,000.00

UGM Dallas is also taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of overnight guests, staff, and volunteers. UGM Dallas staff is working tirelessly to follow best practices from the CDC in order to stay healthy and ensure that there are no service disruptions. UGM Dallas continues to clean & sanitize thoroughly every day, has heightened protocol on all sanitation efforts, has educated all employees on preventative measures provided by the CDC, and has ensured that all standard operating procedures are strictly upheld.
